Day Trips to Cozumel

From Playa del Carmen, you can catch the ferry across to the Island of Cozumel for a day. The ferry port is in downtown near the town's main square.

Fishing

The Riviera Maya's extensive wild life offers an abundance of both shallow water fish like wahoo, Atlantic bumper, cubera snapper, bonitos, Atlantic mackerel, as well as deep sea fish like sailfish, marlins, tuna, and mahi-mahi available especially during the season from March to June, all of which would make perfect fish trophies for an enthusiastic angler.

Aktun Chen

Beautiful underground dry caves with stalactite and stalagmite formations and a spectacular fresh water cenote. You might even be lucky enough to see spider monkeys. Poisonous and non-poisonous snakes can be seen at the serpentarium. Located in the jungle between Akumal and Xel-Ha.

Xpu-Ha

Is an area that has fantastic beaches surrounded by exuberant tropical vegetation and luxury hotels. Its calm and clear waters are suitable for all sorts of water sports and its beaches feature a large expanse of soft powdery sand, a gorgeous lagoon, an inlet, and a refreshing cenote just waiting to be explored.

 Diving and Cenotes

Diving in the Great Mayan Barrier Reef, located in the coast of the Riviera Maya, is one of the main attractions in this destination because it is the second longest in the world, comprising of 70 coral formations. You can also explore underwater wonders in the many cenotes in the area or learn the new sport of cave diving, where you can explore amazing underwater caves, the only area in the world with such an extensively explored cave system. The Yucatan has countless cenotes to swim in and some of the most beautiful ones are in the Riviera Maya: the Taj Majal, The Ponderosa, Dos Ojos, Calavera, Cristal, Escondido and the Gran Cenote, are just some of many found in a famous area called the Route of the Cenotes.

Felipe Carrillo Puerto

Considered as the meeting and departure point to all the Mayan communities in the area, the village of Felipe Carrillo Puerto is located close to Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. Visitors to the village will gain an impressive insight into the way of life and culture of the ancient Mayan who once settled in this area.

Puerto's Cedam Museum

The Cedam Museum is a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, conservation and non-intrusive exploration of underwater natural and archaeological resources. The museum, that it is in the Puerto Aventuras marina, has curious exhibits of 16th-century shipwrecks and a collection of artifacts rescued from the wreckage along the eastern coastline.

Puerto Morelos

As Puerto Morelos is a charming fishing village located 30 minutes South of Cancún ( 15 minutes from Cancún International Airport ) and 20 minutes north of Playa del Carmen in Quintana Roo Mexico. A perfect place to enjoy life and relax, a unique vacation spot in the Mayan Riviera.

Punta Allen

Is an ideal spot for ecological tourism as the place is one of the world's largest ecological reserve with plenty of wildlife such as crocodiles, manatees and herons to be spotted among the others.

Punta Maroma

The combination of string of white sandy beaches, ragged limestone shorelines, and sweet water from subterranean source mingling with the turquoise sea make this beach one of the paradise along the Atlantic Coast.

Sian Ka’an Biosphere

Sian Ka'an Biosphere is located between Tulum and Akumal and is a federally protected reserve that features freshwater canals, tropical forests, mangrove wetlands, lagoons, prairies and a 70-mile long barrier reef - the second largest barrier reef in the world.

Xaman-Ha Aviary

Home to exotic birds including scarlet macaws, flamingos and herons. Xaman-Ha is in Playacar which is in the south extreme of Playa del Carmen.

Tres Rios

This ecological park is set in an area of low tropical jungle and mangrove on the Riviera Maya between Cancun and Playa del Carmen. The site is home to more than 100 species of animals and countless specimens of precious subtropical plants. There are dozens of activities to be enjoyed around the park such as horseback riding, bicycling, diving, swimming and kayaking.

The Riviera Maya features beautiful golf courses designed by Jack Nicklaus, Greg Norman, and Robert Trent Jones among other designers, hired by important resorts and developers, which have made the Riviera Maya a world-class golf destination.
